Abstract | Program requirements for a master's degree in education at both publicly and privately supported institutions are compared. Requirements are revealed as similar in both types of institution with some slight differences in emphasis. Publicly supported institutions appear to have more stringent requirements in the areas of full-time residency requirements, standardized test score requirements, minimum test score requirements, and acceptability of transfer credits. Private institutions appear to have more stringent requirements, maximum number of transfer credits allowed, fulfilling residency requirements during summer sessions, and maximum number of transfer credits allowed which were earned toward another degree.
