Abstract | This book is a report on, and a comparative analysis of, the experiences in vocational and technical education of twenty-three developing countries. Following the introductory section, the second chapter presents brief summaries (schematic presentations) of the educational systems in each of the countries. Focusing on policy, planning, and administration, the third chapter summarizes in graphic form the overall administrative structures of technical and vocational education in fourteen of the countries. The fourth chapter briefly describes three phases of technical and vocational education identified by Unesco: (1) technical and vocational aspects of general education, (2) technical and vocational education as preparation for an occupational field, and (3) technical and vocational education as continuing education. In addition, this chapter provides brief descriptions of what each country is doing in these three phases. Chapter 5 discusses the implementation of technical and vocational education and describes the forms of technical teacher training already existing or being developed. The sixth chapter reviews problems and trends inherent in the development of technical vocational education. Unesco's revised recommendations concerning technical and vocational education are appended. (LRA) |
