Abstract | This document is a summary of a book entitled tentatively "Discipline: A Socially Literate Solution" by the same author. The book, based on seven years of research and development, is intended to be a manual for educators and students. The method described takes as its starting point that discipline problems can be reduced significantly if educators collaboratively name patterns of conflict, analyze systemic causes, and democratically improve the rules and roles governing behavior. It lays out a theory on the causes of discipline problems in schools and then offers specific techniques for their amelioration. The summary presents an overview of the theory with examples and then indicates chapter by chapter the content of the book. (Author/MLF) |
