AbstractOne-week workshops for Preparing Educational Training Constultants: Skills Training (I) (PETC-I) were given to members of two teacher training networks: the Florida Teacher Education Centers (TEC's) and the Midwest Institute for Individually Guided Instruction (IGE). PETC-I is an instructional system which can be used for trainers in existing agencies who wish to adopt this system for their inservice efforts; that is, disseminate the training to their clients. The evaluation study reported here had two main objectives--first to judge the feasibility of the strategy based upon its initial implementation; and secondly, to understand the factors influencing the feasibility of this strategy. The first objective addressed three main questions--Can the approach be generalized to other networks? What are the major needs, problems and opportunities in collaborative efforts such as these? How has the dissemination spread beyond workshop participants to network clients and schools? Answers were collected by: (1) review of written documentation; (2) interviews with workshop trainers and developers; (3) questionnaires completed by the directors of the networks; and (4) followup interviews with the directors. The second objective of this evaluation concerned the characteristics of the training and the success of the PETC-I workshop as a training entity. Data were collected from interviews with senior trainers, from a workshop evaluator-observer, and from a post-workshop questionnaire administered to the participants. Two crucial and somewhat interrelated factors determined the success of the training dissemination--network directors who had themselves participated in the PETC-I training were more likely to commit their networks to conducting their own workshops.
