| Abstract | The theoretical part of this study defines and clarifies the term "opinion," which is widely neglected in attitude research. It treats opinions in a phenomenological sense. Drawing upon the theory of Rokeach (1968) about "value attitude systems," the study constructs a model which considers opinion as a hierarchical structure of general values and specific beliefs which depend on these values. The model is then applied to the developmental politics of Switzerland and tested empirically. Changes of opinion are examined in relation to such structural measures as inclusivity and consistency between values and beliefs. The results of the empirical investigation indicate that particularly inconsistent opinions changed whereas consistent structures resisted contradictory information much better. Moreover, an interaction between change of values and structural measures was statistically proven. (The document is in German with French and English summaries.) (Author/FL) |
