Abstract | The Research and Development Interpretation Service (RDIS) and its activities as a regional support of the Research and Development Exchange (RDx) are described; both organizations are part of a federal effort to bring educational research and school practice closer together. Goals for RDx include interagency cooperation and dissemination of educational activities and resources, increased understanding and use of research and development outcomes, and increased shared understanding and application of information about practitioner needs and efforts to meet those needs. RDIS is designed to serve as a resource to RDx for analytical information on research and development in priority areas, to develop materials to enhance communication between the researchers and practitioners, to deliver relevant interpretative information, and to improve the quality of research and development interpretations. Key activities related to accomplishing these objectives are the identification, analysis, and dissemination of analytical and interpretative literature, e.g., two bibliographies on interpretative reports for teaching elementary reading and mathematics; the improvement of knowledge transformation and delivery to educators by doing research and development on the process, e.g., an experimental plan for alternate strategies for presenting interpretations; and a report on the evaluation of the NIE Education Product catalog.
