Abstract	This handbook was produced to address some of the questions raised at a workshop for producers, programmers, performers, researchers, and writers in the field of Canadian children's television. Three main areas are covered. The first section provides an indication of some of the information that research can supply for the improvement of children's programming, and offers some before, during, and after research designs. The second section offers a general description of the growing child with age profiles of children from two to eleven years. The last section shares some of the more important insights into elements of appeal, attention, comprehensibility, and learning which Canadian broadcasters have acquired from their experience with producing children's programming. Not intended to be definitive, this handbook was developed as a selective and descriptive collection of material which may encourage improvements in the creation, production, and evaluation of children's programming.
