AbstractThe 17 articles in this collection outline the state of linguists' present knowledge about English and suggest ways of dealing with language in the English classroom. Topics include an historical investigation of language attitudes and the implications for bidialectalism in the schools; professional viewpoints on the Back to the Basics movement as it relates to spelling, grammar and usage, and language and dialect; the use of a wide variety of media in English language study; the way in which a supplementary writing laboratory was structured; ways of teaching listening skills; and inductive approach to the rules of speaking; a survey of students' attitudes toward spelling; the employment of concepts of Action-Learning in the classroom; a method for teaching concepts of Action-Learning in the classroom; and a method for teaching exposition through the use of sector analysis.
