Abstract | The four articles in this publication address the following topics: opportunities for developing a graduate program in international and intercultural communication in the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area; the nature of bilingualism and biculturalism in an urban context and their implications for intercultural communication; a typology of social communicators active in developing societies, the usefulness and shortcomings of each class of communicators within the typology, and related areas of investigation for rhetorical scholars; and an investigation concerned with the relationship between the amount of black vernacular English spoken by inner city school children and their academic self-esteem formation.
