Abstract | Provided is a collection of presentations from a conference for ophthalmologists, optometrists, and educators meeting to exchange their concerns and share knowledge on various types of sensory handicaps of deaf blind children. The conference is seen as an introduction to the needs of deaf blind children and to the importance of stating diagnostic medical information in terms applicable to classroom training for vision specialists, and as an introduction to use of medical information in the development of classroom care and training for teachers. Included are the following presentations: "Usher's Syndrome: Problems and Some Solutions" (M. Vernon), "Ophthalmologic and Genetic Aspects of Deafness and Blindness" (D. Bergsma), "Examining the Deaf-Blind Child" (T. Johnston), "Assessing the Deaf-Blind Child" (L. Jenkins), and "Hints for Examining and Reporting the Vision of Deaf-Blind Children" (M. Efron). (IM) |
