| Abstract | This curriculum guide contains the basic information needed to repair all two- and four-stroke cycle engines. The curriculum covers four areas, each consisting of one or more units of instruction that include performance objectives, suggested activities for teacher and students, information sheets, assignment sheets, job sheets, visual aids, criterion referenced tests, and test answers. Organization is as follows: (1) orientation: occupational introduction, safety, tools, and measuring; (2) basic small engine theory: engine identification and inspection, basic engine principles and design, principles of operation--four-stroke cycle, and principles of operation--two-stroke cycle; (3) electrical systems: basic electricity, ignition systems, charging systems, and starting systems; and (4) engine service: lubrication systems, cooling systems, fuel systems, governor systems, exhaust systems, troubleshooting, overhaul--four-stroke cycle engine, and overhaul--two-stroke cycle engine. (Several supplementary manuals are available to cover accompanying tasks for specific types of engines, e.g., motorcycles, snowmobiles, outboard motors). (BL) |
