AbstractA survey questionnaire was designed and distributed to students in 38 community college evening classes in order to determine student characteristics and evaluate student satisfaction. The sample of 463 students had the following characteristics: 56% were male; the average age was 28; 75% were taking only evening classes; 54% were married, 13% divorced, and 3% widowed; 10% had some disability; 41% were carrying 1 to 5 units; 32% had accumulated less than 15 credits, 48% had 16-90 credits, and 20% more than 90; 79% had attended more than one quarter; 67% were working full or part-time; and 74% were enrolled either to improve job skills or to complete a degree or certificate. Student evaluations of college services included a community service rating of satisfactory to excellent by 90%, 88% wanted more evening class offerings, 25% were unaware of financial aid, 65% had never seen a counselor, and 52% reported they would use counseling services if available at night. The services of the library, bookstore, and coffee shop were judged adequate by over 60%, but the majority were unaware and/or wanted increased access to skills laboratories, women's and minority programs, college clubs, volunteer programs, and student activities programs. The questionnaire, survey instructions, classes included in the sample, and item response analyses are appended. (RT)
