Abstract | Information contained in this resource manual is designed to help educators become more familiar with career opportunities available to high school graduates in the local (Des Moines) labor market, and employer requirements for entry into these career areas. Fifteen occupational clusters are investigated: Agribusiness and natural resources, business and office related, communications and media, construction, consumer and homemaking education, environmental control, fine arts and humanities, health, hospitality and recreation, manufacturing, marine science, marketing and distribution, personal service, public service, and transportation. Occupations within clusters are described under the following areas: Duties, working hours, special clothing, masks, shields or equipment, working conditions, school subjects of particular use, dependent upon other people, other people dependent on employee, abilities and interests to be successful, physical demands, personal qualities, educational preparation, jobs young people could do to prepare for this type of work, general salary range, fringe benefits, opportunities for advancement, and other occupations knowledge/skills for job to be utilized.
