| Abstract | Measurement of student achievement is an integral part of the teaching-learning process in Health Occupations Education and is essential for effective guidance of student growth. The measurement devices used in classroom and clinical site instruction should be directed toward stated behavioral objectives, providing valid and reliable evidence of student growth. This evidence also can be used to determine readiness for learning new skills and knowledge, to pinpoint areas for remedial work, and to provide guidance for improving instruction. Many New York State Health Occupations Education teachers have experienced difficulty in developing good classroom and clinical tests and other instruments for assessing student progress, and have expressed a need for assistance. Therefore, this publication was prepared to provide guidelines in the construction of a variety of measurement devices and effective ways to use these educational instruments. (Author/MV) |
