AbstractCovering the period between July 1 to December 31, 1976, this third semi-annual report on the Applied Fishery Science Program operative at Sheldon Jackson College in Sitka, Alaska deals primarily with the first quarter of hatchery and educational program operation. Specifically, this report addresses the following: Program Objectives; Advisory Committee; Program Staff; Planning and Coordination (funding sources, operational permits, cooperative educational programs, and student recruitment and program publicity); Academic Program and Placement Service (first year enrollment, curriculum development, and placement service); Aquaculture Facilities (gravel egg incubator, weirs, teaching wet lab, pink salmon spawning, chum salmon spawning, and coho salmon spawning); Advisory Services (information dissemination and cooperative efforts and contacts). Also included is a summary which indicates: on-schedule implementation; progress in the development of cooperative programs; continued state-wide exposure via recruiting trips, advisory services, participation in workshops/conferences media coverage, and high school counselors; intensified efforts to secure other income sources; the need for an emphasis upon on-the-job training via expanded opportunities for students to assist in the hatchery operation; continued advisory services on aquaculture development; a first year enrollment of 12 technicians and 6 transfer students.
