| Abstract | This book is devoted to investigative reporting. Chapters tell how to decide on a subject, how to find and evaluate sources, how to approach and interview the sources and the subject of the investigation, how to write the investigative story, how to insure that it gets published, and how to advance the aims of an investigation, even after the publication of the first article. Emphasis throughout is placed on the similarity between normal, conscientious enterprise journalism and investigative reporting, and on choosing subjects worthy of the attention of the mature investigator. Special attention is given to research in public documents and in getting along with editors. Several pieces of investigative reporting, which illustrate various kinds of stories, are reprinted in an appendix. (Author/KS) |
