Abstract | This bibliography of Indian languages is designed to assist students, teachers, librarians, and researchers in identifying instructional works to serve the needs of those teaching and learning Indian languages, and to promote the study of these languages. It was compiled with the Indian language situation in mind, in which the superficial pervasiveness of English often obscures the need to learn an Indian language. Thus, only dictionaries that are bilingual in an Indian language and English are included, as opposed to those bilingual in an Indian language and some other language. The bibliography is divided into fourteen sections, each one dealing with works concerning the following languages: Hindi, Hindustani Urdu, Gujarati, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, Assamese, Bengali, Oriya, Kashmiri, Punjabi, and Sindhi. Each section is subdivided into a section concerning grammatical studies, a section citing dictionaries, and a section devoted to instructional materials. Both books and relevant journal articles are cited. (CLK) |
