Abstract	This booklet presents teacher-developed units of study on the American government for eleventh-grade students. The materials are Part I of a set of classroom strategies intended to help secondary students examine American history in light of the issues identified by the American Issues Forum. Students analyze the U.S. Constitution, draw cartoons, examine legislative logs and senators' schedules, interview members of legislative bodies, and write summaries of legislative processes. Data and descriptive analyses on a broad range of topics are provided, as are questions for discussion on each subject. Content includes an examination of the democratic procedure of voting, a look at the legislative process of making statute law, a description of legislative districts and of how representatives and senators help their constituents, and examples of presidential actions taken during a typical two-week period. The self-contained materials may be used directly by the students and are easily adapted for individualized instruction. Additional resource materials on American government are also cited. Because the units are in field-test condition, suggestions for modifications or substitutions are welcome. (Author/RM)
