Abstract | Academic program review should not be considered a new phenomenon in higher education; reviews of various types have been conducted on a continuing basis. The renewed importance of an organized effort has been stimulated by the inability of funding sources to maintain levels of support required to insure quality in all on-going programs. Current approaches to academic program review exhibit a broad range of activities. Concerns about academic program review exist with administration, faculty, and students. In general, the seriousness of these concerns depends on the level of understanding about the concepts and objectives of the program review. The primary justification for academic program review is the maintenance of excellence in university programs. This goal can be achieved by assuring that the appropriate programs receive sufficient levels of support. (Author/KE) |
