Abstract	This publication was prepared jointly by the California School Boards Association and the Association of California School Administrators to assist local school districts in selecting and hiring a new school superintendent. Because the needs and resources of each school district differ considerably, the booklet attempts to present general guidelines and procedures that can be readily adapted to the needs of large and small districts alike. The booklet is organized in three sections that focus in turn on the roles of the school board, the advisor to the school board, and the applicant screening committee in the recruitment and selection process. Also included are a number of appendixes that present sample recruitment brochures, application forms, employment contracts, and other relevant information. (JG)
