Abstract | A team of experts examined eight representative examples of industrialized building systems in six countries to determine the origins of the system and the approach taken by its originators; the reasons that led school building agencies to adopt the system; the quality and other characteristics of the finished product; system costs compared with the costs of alternative methods; construction time compared with other methods; evaluation and development techniques; and building procurement practices. The report identifies the benefits and some of the criteria of the systems, and discusses building specification and purchase, as well as the arrangements made for systems development and components production. Also considered are the many decision-making elements and the preferable ways of interrelating them, considering the variations in governmental structure in participating countries. The final chapter summarizes the conclusions of the study. (Author/MLF) |
