Abstract | The main objective of the Goteborg Project on Non-Verbatim Learning was to arrive at a commensurable description of the process and outcome of non-verbatim learning, also referred to as meaningful verbal learning. Such a description was thought to be a necessary presupposition for any explanatory models both in experiments on learning and in the broader context of academic performance. Four papers thought to represent the project's main research activities are presented. The papers are: (1) "Non-Verbatim Learning: Level of Processing and Level of Outcome", by Ference Marton; (2) "Non-Verbatim Learning: Level of Outcome as a Function of Level of Processing. I. Some Effects of Explicit Control", by Lars Owe Dahlgren; (3) "On Non-Verbatim Learning: Level of Outcome as a Function of Level of Processing. II. Some Effects of Anticipated Test Requirements", by Roger Saljo; and (4) "Ways of Learning and Patterns of Study", by Lennart Svensson. (BJG) |
