AbstractDesigned for instruction of emotionally handicapped children and youth, six articles deal with art concepts and activities relative to outdoor education. Presenting over 100 activity suggestions, the first article emphasizes art in nature and states seven objectives which point toward creative development of such concepts as color value, two dimensional surfaces, perspective, line, shape, volume, light, and texture. The second article presents 28 activities and emphasizes the importance of providing emotionally handicapped children with the security necessary for creative activities. Developing an art curriculum in the outdoors constitutes the focus of the third article which points out the facility with which materials and enthusiasm may be generated in the outdoors. For example, 1 of 23 activities calls for developing abstract patterns from study of a knot hole in a piece of wood. With emphasis on an interdisciplinary approach, the fourth article presents three simple, brief, and relevant lesson plans designed to produce immediate success. In a discussion of progressively sophisticated art activities, the fifth article emphasizes the importance of controls which enhance personal security, on the spot material demonstrations, and immediate success. Promoting an indigenous program, the sixth article details outdoor areas of study with derivative concepts and interdisciplinary activities. (JC)
