Abstract	To identify discernible trends in day class enrollments, and thus assist in curriculum and course planning, detailed class enrollments for Los Angeles City College day classes were compiled over a five-year period. Over the period, total class enrollments decreased monotonically for the first four years, dropping in 1973 to about 90 percent of the 1970 figure, then jumping back in 1974 to slightly above the 1970 level. Of the 17 career departments, 12 showed higher enrollments in 1974 than in 1970. Of the 15 noncareer departments, only 6 had 1974 totals above those for 1970. Engineering, physics, and computer and electronics technology exhibited the largest departmental declines over the five years, followed by five traditionally "verbal" departments--English, social sciences, foreign languages, speech, and philosophy. Greatest gains over the five-year period were in the departments of law (reflecting off-campus special courses), optics, developmental communications, occupational therapy, media arts, and radiologic technology.
