Abstract | The present study was divided into four components dealing with: (a) development of a student data tape containing both intellective and non-intellective data; (b) development of a computer-based retrieval system to be used with a student data tape; (c) development of a senior survey form to be used on graduates of Illinois institutions of higher education; and (d) determining the validity of student-reported family income data. The results of the four components indicated that it is feasible to build a state-wide data tape and a retrieval system to access and use such a file. Graduating senior data can be meaningfully gathered through mailed questionnaires and, therefore, could be used to enhance and enrich the entering student data. There was quite a close correspondence between student reported and actual family income data indicating that the students can be relied upon to provide accurate personal and familial data. The particular limitations observed in each component of the study did not appear to have a major effect on the appropriateness and future applications of the results. (Author) |
