AbstractThis report is of an omnibus survey of campus attitudes conducted by the Survey Research Center (SRC) of the State University of New York at Buffalo. Its primary purpose was to provide accurate information as a basis for effective decisions by institutional policy makers. A random sample of 326 students, 98 faculty, and 95 staff participated in the project which was directed by Dr. John Bruce Francis of SRC. Respondents answered a combination of both "closed" and "open-ended" questions on current campus issues such as the presence of ROTC, drug use, intercollegiate football, evaluation, campus protest, minority issues, health service, and governance. Results indicated that despite a then-current stereotype, the campus community was not a hotbed of radical dissent and permissive attitudes. Indications of this were that a majority of those polled disagree with the use of extreme protest tactics, favor a "tough" stance against the use and distribution of hard drugs, favor joint evaluation of course work by teacher and student rather than evaluation by the student alone, and feel that the University should make special efforts to improve its relations with the community.
