| Abstract | This report discusses the extension of lighting facilities to existing recreational areas as well as their incorporation in new facilities as a means of increasing opportunities for recreation. Such an approach has the advantages of (1) making the best use of land in metropolitan areas, where it is at a premium; (2) providing recreational facilities when and where working people are free to use them; and (3) reducing the cost of existing facilities per participant. An appendix lists federal programs that might possibly provide financial and technical assistance for public and for privately owned recreational facilities. (Author) |
