Abstract | Emphasis is placed on the establishment of a cost effective program of records management with scientific controls of records required in the course of operating a business. The control of cost and information must be given consideration along with the problem of effective information dissemination. For success, the program's objectives must be clearly stated and the program properly organized. A physical records inventory must be taken. All record series must be analyzed and appraised by a division of functional responsibilities. Clear, tailor-made records flow schedules must be issued and explained. An effective, low cost records center must be set up. Vital records protection must be provided where required. Media of record storage and handling must be evaluated. Forms, records, and correspondence must be controlled. Cost of information systems must be analyzed, where warrented. With all the scientific controls implemented, it is clear that records management can effectively control costs associated with paperwork and control information. (Author/MM) |
