AbstractThis program is made up of three phases. The first phase consists of 7 weeks of on-campus instruction; the second phase consists of a full year of intern teaching; and the third phase is another 7 weeks on campus to review the intern experience. Each student entering the program is expected to know enough of his subject to meet certification subject matter requirements. The program concentrates on professional skills only. During the on-campus phase of the program, the student must choose a topic group, a function group, and an activity group. Topic groups center on urban education, rural education, special education, or other similar areas. Function groups are made up of administrators, teacher trainers, secondary school teachers, or elementary school teachers. Both topic and function groups (each containing about 20 students) are expected to develop their own curriculum using the resources of the college. In the activity groups, students and faculty combine on the basis of personal interest to further their skills in non-verbal expression. Examples of activity groups are painting, sculpture, photography, dance, and furniture making. The two remaining components of the program--seminars and large groups--focus on discussions of literature and lectures. (RT)
