| Abstract | An investigation compared achievement of secondary school students completing a two-year integrated chemistry-physics course (experimental group) with that of students enrolled in separate chemistry and physics courses (control group). A major finding was that of superior achievement in both chemistry and physics of control group students. Conclusions were (1) individual and group laboratory experimentation had a more positive effect on achievement of control group students than on the experimental group, (2) the separate chemistry and physics laboratories used in the study were inadequate for the integrated approach, and (3) students in the experimental group had completed on the average one year less of mathematics and were less able to cope with the quantitative nature of the experimental group than were students enrolled in the separate chemistry and physics courses.
