AbstractSterling M. McMurrin, Chairman of the Commission on Instructional Technology, introduces this volume with a description of the Commission's work to date and a discussion of the relationship of technology to education. The following 91 papers comprise the remainder of the state-of-the-art papers submitted as working papers to the Commission. For the text of the Commission report and the first section of papers refer to ED 043 240. The first 30 papers in the volume present general theories of instructional technology and suggest broad applications of technological concepts to education. The authors approach the subject from such disciplines as systems analysis, communications, behavioral science, and philosophy. The impact of instructional technology on such areas of education as the teaching profession, school administration, the future of books, disadvantaged students, measurement and evaluation techniques, and vocational education is examined in a group of 43 papers. The next 10 papers represent attempts to discern the implication of instructional technology for business and industry. Finally, the effect of cost-benefit analysis on budgeting for instructional technology is examined in the last group of papers. A subject index is provided. (JY)
