Abstract | The New York State Center for Migrant Studies conducted this 1968 study which investigated effects of token reinforcers on reading and arithmetic skills learnings of migrant primary school students during a 6-week summer school session. Students (Negro and Caucasian) received plastic tokens to reward skills learning responses. Tokens were traded for candy, toys, or sundries to provide supplementary reinforcement. Treatment groups (n=30) were compared with non-treatment groups (n=30) by means of a t-test using scores of the Wide Range Achievement Test. Pretest and posttest comparisons favored the treatment group at the .05 level. Four tables give data relative to the study. (AN) |
