Abstract | Aufgrund des gestiegenen Wettbewerbsdrucks nehmen deutsche Hochschulen externe Wissenschaftskommunikation zunehmend als strategischen Baustein wahr. Due to growing competitive pressure, German universities increasingly perceive external science communication as a strategic element. How do the responsible communicators understand their organisational and communicative role? Using an organisational sociological approach, this study identifies three areas and examines the communicators' perspective on the basis of qualitative guided interviews with 22 responsible professionals at larger, medium-sized and smaller universities as well as universities of applied sciences. The study contributes to the theoretical conceptualisation of science communication in university contexts. From a practical point of view, it shows that the field is becoming increasingly professionalised. However, the communicators do not always reflect on their role between strategic and public welfare-oriented communication and the associated normativities. (HoF/text adopted). |
