Abstract | Due to a lively exchange among European countries - as far as we know - a fairly uniform teaching method was adopted in the use of catechism primers from their inception during the fifteenth century until the nineteenth, in some cases even to the early twentieth century. This sub-chapter describes and discusses this so-called "alphabet method" in the light of today's knowledge about reading acquisition. |
