Abstract | This article compares from an epistemological and historiographic perspective the events of September 11, 2001 as they were presented in French high school textbooks published in 2010 and 2011 for " 1ère ES " and " 1ère L " (pre-graduation-year) classes and in 2020 for " terminale générale " (graduation-year) classes. After analyzing the differentiated portrayals of the dimensions of the events (I), this article examines the way they are presented within different temporalities either for the purpose of positing the events as a resultant of prior causes (II) or for determining whether they represent a break between two periods or a link within a continuum (III). It highlights the persistent role of representations in the way recent events are presented in textbooks. |
