Abstract | "This study examines whether premature termination of vocational training is more likely when trainees had to make compromises between their realistic occupational aspiration and their occupation trained for in terms of gender type, prestige and occupational interests. It further investigates whether compromises in prestige and gender type are more important than compromises in occupational interests. The study is based on a sample of trainees from the German National Educational Panel Study (NEPS). Event history models are used to identify the factors influencing the hazard rates of premature termination of vocational training. Compromises in interests increased the risk of premature termination of vocational training. Compromise in gender type and prestige, on the contrary, had little impact. Compromise in interests were of particular importance if the trainees had entered occupations that correspond to the gender type and prestige of their occupational aspirations. Compromises in interests in first occupational choice threaten the stability of vocational training. Compromises in interests are particularly influential when aspirations regarding the social aspects of occupational choice are met." (Author's abstract, IAB-Doku). |
