| Abstract | Learners beyond the optimal phase mostly struggle with attaining a native-like pronunciation. More than 40 years after the first studies on "the good language learner", we still lack research on "the good pronunciation learner". Therefore, an interview study with outstanding successful pronunciation learners of German was conducted. Comparing the study's results with those from studies on good language learners, it becomes obvious that good language learners and good pronunciation learners have much in common: They profit from their learning environment, integrative motivation, positive attitudes towards the target language and especially its pronunciation, contact to L1 speakers as well as from taking responsibility for their learning, i.e. active and persistent learning in order to improve pronunciation as well as recognising own production and perception problems. Concerning practising pronunciation, it seems to be beneficial to work with listening, imitation and singing. (Verlag). |
