Abstract | EuroComGerm can be one of the building blockes of a plurilingual whole school curriculum. When trying to evaluate EuroComGerm projects in school, affordance theory is a useful tool but there are challenges as well, i.e. the fact that the term "affordance" ist still comparatively unknown and requires translation in non-English-language contexts, conflicting interpretations of the term "affordance", the need for elaboration of James J. Gibson's affordance theory in new contexts, the extent of potentially relevant data, the fact that in any given context a different range of affordances emerges for every individual, the focus on action possibilities, the question of how far the subdivision of affordances into sub-affordances should go an the issue of why certain affordances are used while others are ignored. The article examines these challenges in detail and - referring to examples from the analysis of a EuroComGerm project week - describes productive ways of dealing with them. (Verlag, adapt.). |
