Abstract	Vocational interests are regarded as important determinants of vocational and career related decisions. To date, however, little is known about their role in educational decisions at secondary level. This chapter examines key aspects of vocational interests as conceptualized by Holland... at the transition from lower secondary education to the differentiated upper secondary system of general and vocational education implemented in Baden-Württemberg. The results of analyses based on representative cohorts of grade 10 and grade 13 students can be summarized as follows: (1) Evidence for the validity of Holland's hexagonal model was found in all subsamples examined, with a high degree of measurement invariance being established. (2) The findings document significant associations between individual interests and the type of Gymnasium school chosen at the end of lower secondary education. (3) Finally, there was little evidence of school socialization effects on the development of interest at upper secondary level. (DIPF/Orig.).
