Abstract	Interdisciplinary teaching is a teaching method that is not as easy as other teaching methods to integrate into the everyday school schedule. This paper serves as an example and gives explanations on how this didactic approach can be applied. The lessons described were conducted successfully with a Year 11 class at a secondary school in which the subjects of physical education and biology were combined. Based on the performance of the three athletic disciplines, namely sprinting, javelin throwing, and high jumping, the biological background, such as the identity and relationships of the muscles involved was discussed and elaborated on. As the curriculum for biology requires, the students were introduced to systems that explore biological phenomena by studying the relationships between structure and function. By combining the biological background with physical education, the students were able to evaluate their movement skills and learn more about concepts and strategies to perform their physical activities competently.
