Abstract | The goals of the present dissertation are twofold. First, necessary preconditions (e.g., an experimental procedure) for an effective investigation of the LaD approach (Jonassen & Reeves, 1996) will be clarified. Second, two critical factors for a succesful acquisition of content knowledge in the LaD approach will be investigated with a) the creation of different externalizations and b) perspective-shifting (cf. Lehrer, 1993). However, the complex instructional approach has to be broken down in several sub-tasks to investigate these critical factors. Several sub-tasks of the LaD approach were examined in the empirical studies of the present dissertation by creating a mind map, writing texts and developing learning tasks to create a media for other learners.
