Abstract | Many recreational divers and bounty seekers live in hope of discovering a shipwreck - just like "Diver Dan" in the eponymous rhyming story. Diver Dan wants to find the wreck of the "Mary Lee" that lies at the bottom of the sea, in the (fictional) bay of Zanitoo. Dan hopes to find gold in the ship's hold. Dan consults books and maps to locate the exact spot where the Mary Lee sank, before he sails away. The story describes the equipement Dan needs and his underwater adventure. In his search for the wreck, Dan sees a variety of ocean animals, including one that's not so friendly. The story has a happy ending, but invites children to think about alternative endings. The pictures to accompany the story are intended to support the children's listening skills and help them build their vocabulary. The story contains many rhyming pairs which the children can be encouraged to identify. (Verlag). |
