| Abstract | Mordovian State Pedagogical Institute named after M.E. Evsev'ev (MordSPI) was founded on September 1, 1962. Over the years of its existence the university has trained more than 30 thousand specialists for institutions of education, culture, science, economics, physical culture and sport, as well as in other areas. There are many well-known scientists, educators, politicians, writers and musicians among them. Titled athletes, including two Olympic champions - A. Mishin (Greco-Roman wrestling) and V. Borchin (racewalking) occupy a special place. In modern conditions the main task of the pedagogical university is training of a new format of specialists, including in the field of physical culture and sport, who can successfully meet the challenges of health protection and physical education in the educational institutions of various types. MordSPI has everything for this. University sports club is developing university sport in the institute. lts main objective is promoting physical culture and sport among students, involving them regular physical training and individual sports. The innovative structural unit - Regional Scientific and Practical Center for Physical Culture and healthy lifestyle was established to carry out scientific and practical activities aimed at solving problems in the field of physical culture and promotion of healthy way of life, on the basis of the Faculty of Physical Culture in 2011. Today Mordovian State Pedagogical Institute named after M.E. Evsev'ev is a well-deserved leader in development of physical culture and sport, introduction to the educational process of health protecting technologies and promoting healthy way of life in the Republic of Mordovia.
