Abstract | In the last few years there has been a significant increase in research-related approaches to (music) teacher training. In a recent paper, Thade Buchborn and Isolde Malmberg introduced "Teachers' Practitioner Research" as a new research methodology in music education. [This] article is a response to Buchborn and Malmberg's work and raises several epistemological and research-methodological questions: Which differences are significant between the roles of researchers and teachers? Is it appropriate to draw a line between practice-based research and academic studies, and how can the differences be described in detail? What consequences does the application of established research methods have in the framework of "Teachers' Practitioner Research"? And finally, can the problem of normative circularity in practice-based research be addressed? |
