| Abstract | Frequently foreign language teachers complain that didactic approaches are too far away from classroom reality; conversely, foreign language didactics experts complain about teachers' occasional lack of didactic interest. Theory and practice correspond in a natuaral tension (not only) in the field of foreign language teaching. Several reasons indicate that this field of tension needs to be investigated more thoroughly than before. As a result, foreign language didactic innovation and transfer research could specify the "drop height" of didactic theory with regard to the foreign language classroom and thus the conditions for a successful foreign language didactic transfer of knowledge.
