Abstract	Vom 1. April 1950 an war der Sport in den Schulen der DDR ein obligatorisches Unterrichtsfach. Damit war ein Kernsegment des zentralistischen Sportsystems der DDR etabliert worden, das einen wesentlichen Beitrag dazu leistete, dass der Sport auch erfolgreich zur Durchsetzung politisch-ideologischer Ziele eingesetzt und sein Potenzial dazu benutzt werden konnte, dass sich die Menschen mit der gesellschaftlichen Ordnung sowie mit Partei und Regierung identifizierten. Die Einbindung von Sport und Körperkultur zum Zwecke des Machterhalts ist in der Geschichte wiederholt praktiziert worden, in der DDR aber besonders gelungen. Dazu trug der Sportunterricht an Schulen maßgeblich bei. Ende 1949 traten die Vorbereitungen für seine obligatorische Einführung in das entscheidende Stadium. Auf der Basis umfangreicher Archivstudien werden der Prozess der Etablierung des Sportunterrichts, aber auch frühe Stationen seiner weiteren Entwicklung nachgezeichnet. Dabei nimmt die schulstatistische Sondererhebung zur Situation des Sportunterrichts in den Ländern der DDR zum 1. März 1950 eine Schlüsselstellung ein, weil sie eindrucksvoll und detailliert Aufschluss über die realen Bedingungen im Schulsport zum damaligen Zeitpunkt gibt. Verf.-Referat. From April 1st, 1950, physical education was compulsory in the schools of the German Democratic Republic (GDR). Four weeks later, swimming instruction became compulsory. This way, a core segment of the centralized and more and more successful sports system of the GDR had been established, contributing considerably to the successful use of sports in the GDR in putting through political and ideological purposes. Furthermore, its potential helped forming and educating the people who should identify with the overall social objectives of the SED and the government of the GDR. Insofar, a historically proved and tested sample was being followed as the exploitation and integration of physical exercise and sports in the political quest for the achievement and preservation of power, for forming and conditioning devoted followers, has been applied successfully on various occasions in history. However in the historical review, sports in the GDR presents an image reflecting a political exploitation that seemed exceptionally successful. Physical education added significantly to this. By the end of 1949, the preparations for sports being made compulsory entered the crucial stage. Based on extensive archives, the process of preparing and establishing physical education as well as early stages of its further development are being traced here. In this process, the special school statistic enquiry on the situation of physical education in the federal states of the GDR by March 1st, 1950, adopts a key position, as it reveals the realistic structure of preconditions in school sports back then in an impressive and detailed manner. Verf.-Referat. À partir du 1 avril 1950, l'éducation physique devint obligatoire dans les écoles de la République démocratique allemande (RDA). Quatre semaines plus tard, les cours de natation le devinrent également. De cette manière fut établie une pratique centrale du système sportif centralisé et performant de la RDA, contribuant de ma-nière considérable à l'utilisation du sport pour l'affirmation politique et idéologique du pays. De plus, le système aida à former et à éduquer la population est-allemande qui devait s'identifier aux objectifs du parti unique SED et du gouvernement de la RDA. Si les études historiques montrent que le sport a fréquemment été exploité politiquement, cela était particulièrement vrai en RDA. L'éducation physique scolaire venait renforcer l'assimilation entre succès politiques et sportifs. À la fin de l'année 1949, les préparations pour le cours de sport obligatoire en-trèrent dans une étape cruciale. En se basant sur un grand nombre d'archives, le présent article retrace le processus de la préparation et de l'établissement du cours d'éducation physique obligatoire, ainsi que les premières étapes de son développement. Tout au long de ce processus, l'étude statistique sur la situation au 1 mars 1950 de l'éduction physique dans les écoles des États fédéraux de la RDA, est un document clef. En effet, cette étude statistique met à jour l'impressionnante et minutieuse organisation structurelle du sport scolaire de cette époque. Verf.-Referat.
