Abstract | The article presents a current research project which focuses on the mediatic change caused by the ubiquity of digital media. Foreign language pedagogy has already taken into account these changes without precisely defining, however, their nature. The reason for this could be a somewhat fuzzy, mainly technical concept of what is to be understood by a medium, a situation which might lead to the use of media in the language classroom for their own sake. The author proposes to study the mediatic change on the basis of system theory. The results are applied to language pedagogy by an approach little known in the German-speaking debate, the pedagogy of multiliteracies. Based on these theoretical grounds, the author's research project analyzes the weblog Generación Y by the Cuban Yoani Sánchez in order to evaluate the potential of digital media for the foreign language classroom.
