Abstract | "The empirical study presented in this paper treats the personal conceptions and attitudes of Swiss teachers concerning the topic of EU-Europe. Whether and how they integrate this issue into their classwork is also a subject of the analysis. Therefore, seven teachers and four pupils were interrogated orally, in the form of a partially-structured interview. This kind of qualitative research also informs the Evaluation of the Socrates Comenius Project, "Teacher Empowerment to Educate Students to Become Active European Citizens" (TEESAEC). All the probands participated in the TEESAEC-study and deepened their handling of the EU-Europe topic with their classes. Moreover, this study provides an impression of the realization and position of civic education on the lower secondary level. The results enable one to draw conclusions for civic education from the study of EU-Europe and TEESAEC-research." (publisher's description). |
