| Abstract | In the article the author examines his beliefs about certain classroom practices. Being an EFL teacher who participates in a Russian language course he compares his own learning environment to those of other students. He adduces various arguments which could improve learning a foreign language, inter alia, the avoidance of the students' native language in a foreign language class, more focus on pronunciation drills or vocabulary acquisition. Furthermore, he argues that group and pair work enhances the classroom communication and specifies this by listing the advantages and disadvantages of small groups of language learners. Finally, the emotional quotient, including the so-called communicative anxiety, is considered to be relevant in the course of foreign language acquisition. (Verlag, adapt.). |
