| Abstract | Since the discussions about climate change and global warming started, scientists have raised the question of the impact these changes might have on Britain's capital. Although various future scenarios have been created, there is no doubt about that the climate change will affect every aspect of the city, from buildings and public spaces to the way the Londoners live and work. A very recent example of these scenarios was the display of 14 images in the Museum of London at the beginning of 2011. The pictures present familiar views of the capital, which were digitally transformed by illustrators Robert Graves and Didier Madoc-Jones. The display demonstrates the full impact of, e.g., global warming, food scarcity and rising sea-levels and shows how Londoners will need to innovate and adapt to survive. The exhibition includes, e.g., Parliament Square put to work as a rice paddy, ice-skating down the Thames or Buckingham Palace surrounded by a sea of shanty housing. Four of these pictures have been selected for classroom presentation as they show views of London the pupils will be familiar with. (Verlag). |
